EJ Cocker, the well-established heritage window company based in Essex has been using Hodgson Sealants’ Heritage Putty for many years for glazing timber sash windows on historic, conservation and heritage projects across the UK. In its latest project, EJ Cocker is using Heritage Putty to produce sash windows – many of them very large with curved tops – for the restoration and redevelopment of the magnificent Cambridge Military Hospital in Aldershot in Hampshire.

EJ Cocker has used Hodgson Heritage Putty for the Military Hospital project because the spec demands the highest standards of appearance and minimal sightlines for a really luxe finish to the residences being built.

Despite its name, Hodgson Heritage Putty is actually a modern hybrid polymer cartridge gunned product. It gives the appearance of a traditional putty front on single glass, insulating glass units, and reduced sightline units into softwood, hardwood, steel, and stone frames. This makes it the perfect choice for the restoration and replacement of glazing in period properties, listed buildings, and conservation areas. It is extremely durable and remains permanently elastic throughout its life with low residual tack so it remains pristine with minimum dirt pick up. It has excellent toolability and can be painted in a matter of hours with both water- and solvent-based products. It can also be used for internal and external applications and is isocyanate, silicone and solvent free. It is available in standard 290ml cartridges in black and white

“We have been using Hodgson putties and silicones for more than twenty years, not just because the products are great, but because we get fantastic technical back up from the Hodgson team in Yorkshire,” says Simon Cocker from the firm. “We use Heritage Putty in particular on our Slenderline glazed units because it gives us that all important reduced sightline, a really beautiful finish and there are never ever any call backs which can so often happen with traditional oil-based putties. We would never go back to traditional putties now because Heritage Putty just works brilliantly!”
