Fire Door Safety Week takes place between the 25th September and the 1st October this year. Hodgsons Sealants recognises the importance of raising awareness of the importance of fire doors and as such is working on a campaign to bring publicity and education of the general public on this topic.
It may sound obvious but fire doors really do save lives. The Fire Door Safety Week campaign aims to engage and educate building owners and building users on how to use them properly.
Fire doors are an important part of the fire protection of every commercial, public, and multiple occupancy building. Fire doors are often the first line of defence in a fire and their correct specification, maintenance and management can be the difference between life and death for building occupants. Despite this they are often neglected and underfunded either a specification is downgraded in a new build due to costs or they mismanaged throughout their service life, propped open, damaged and badly maintained.
There are somewhere in the range of 3 million new fire doors bought and installed every year in the UK, the vast majority made from timber. This is why the team at Hodgsons Sealants see this campaign being of great importance to the general public, property owners, users and builders alike.
The key objectives of Fire Door Awareness Week are:
