Hodgson Sealants is proud to have supported a recent football tournament dedicated to Donna Nickolay, a talented local footballer who tragically passed away in 2019 at the young age of 28.
Donna, the niece of our National Sales Manager, Kevin Nickolay, was a goalkeeper for Hull City Ladies. She was cherished by her family, her football club and everyone she met. She played for her hometown club for several years before leaving to study in the US. After two successful seasons with Pratt University in Kansas, she returned to the UK.
The Donna Nickolay Foundation was established in her name by her parents, Mark and Wendy, to help empower women through sport. The Foundation looks to support females to achieve their best, offering training and support for players, coaches, officials, physios or any other roles associated with women’s football.
Held at North Cave Playing Fields recently, the 5-a-side tournament was a fun filled day organised by Mark and Wendy, and promoted by Hull City Ladies, with all proceeds going towards the Donna Nickolay Foundation.
Teams from in and around Hull took part in the tournament, with lots of family-friendly stalls and a BBQ too. There were raffle prizes, including a £50 afternoon tea voucher provided by ourselves.
The final total raised on the day was £3,000, which will help the Foundation provide support with training sessions, equipment and travel expenses to women involved in football.
Kevin Nickolay is an integral part of our team at Hodgson Sealants and we are proud to show our support to the Foundation, and to remember Donna.
He commented: “Donna was a bright, bubbly character full of fun with a big smile and warm welcome to anyone she met. She did struggle privately with mental illness, however this was never visible to those she met. I know Donna will be looking down, extremely proud of her parents and close friends that are all working so hard to help people in similar situations find new friendships and enjoyment through sport and community activities.
